Australia’s GTI Program to attract the highly skilled talent globally

Australia's Global Talent Independent Program, also known as the Global Talent Visa Program, aims to attract highly skilled professionals and high-value businesses to the country to boost its economy. The program targets individuals and businesses that bring capital, ideas and networks to Australia, by creating a streamlined pathway for them to come and live in the country permanently.

The program focuses on 10 future-focused sectors such as innovation and tech economies, with an aim to create job opportunities and transfer skills in Australia. The program also grants Permanent Residency to those accepted, allowing them to make a new life in the culturally diverse and cosmopolitan country that offers a business-friendly environment, strong trading links and opportunities for innovation. 15,000 spaces are available for the GTI Program in 2020-21.

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE GLOBAL TALENT VISA PROGRAM

To be eligible for a visa under Australia's Global Talent Independent Program (GTI), the candidate must be highly skilled in one of the 10 target sectors, which include

  • Agri-food and AgTech
  • Circular Economy
  • Defence
  • Advanced Manufacturing and Space
  • DigiTech
  • Education
  • Energy
  • Financial Services and FinTech
  • Health Industries
  • Infrastructure, and
  • Tourism and Resources

Additionally, the candidate must be able to attract a salary that meets or exceeds the high-income threshold, currently set at AUD 153,600 as per Fair Work. This threshold is subject to annual adjustments.

Requirements for Australia's Global Talent Independent Program

The requirements for Australia's Global Talent Independent Program (GTI) include:

  • The candidate must be highly skilled in one of the 10 target sectors as defined by the government, such as Agri-food and AgTech, DigiTech, Health Industries and other mentioned above industries.
  • The candidate must be able to attract a salary that meets or exceeds the high-income threshold, which is currently set at AUD 153,600 as per Fair Work.
  • The candidate must meet other standard visa requirements such as health, character, and English language proficiency.
  • The candidate must be able to demonstrate their potential to contribute to the Australian economy and society.
  • If the candidate is a business owner, they must demonstrate their ability to establish a business in Australia that will create jobs and bring economic benefits to the country.
  • The candidate must also be able to demonstrate their ability to attract investment, talent, or create business opportunities in their chosen sector.
