The Canada Super Visa, also known as the Parent and
Grandparent Super Visa, is a type of visa issued by Canada that allows parents
and grandparents of Canadian permanent residents or citizens to visit them for
extended periods of time. With this visa, the holder is allowed to stay in
Canada for up to 2 years per visit and has the advantage of multiple entries
for a period of up to 10 years. It's an alternative for those who want to spend
a longer time in Canada than the standard Visitor Visa which only allows a stay
of 6 months. It's worth noting that to be eligible, applicants have to meet
certain requirements such as having sufficient funds and providing a written
commitment of financial support from the child or grandchild inviting them, and
having Canadian health insurance coverage.

To be eligible for the Canada Super Visa, certain
conditions must be met by the applicant. These include being a parent or
grandparent of a Canadian permanent resident or citizen, having a signed letter
of invitation from their child or grandchild in Canada, and having valid
medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company with at least $100,000
coverage for a minimum of one year from the date of entry into Canada. Applications
for the Super Visa must be made from outside of Canada and only the
parents/grandparents are eligible, not the dependent children. Additionally, if
the applicant's spouse or partner wishes to accompany them, they will have to
submit a separate application. The child or grandchild inviting the
parent/grandparent to Canada must also prove that their household meets the
minimum income threshold, known as the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO), and other
conditions will also be considered by the Canadian government before granting
the Super Visa, including the applicant being a genuine visitor who will leave
the country voluntarily at the end of their visit.
The application for the Canada Super Visa can be submitted
either in paper format or online. Online applications are generally processed
faster by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as they are
received instantly and also allows for the applicant to ensure that all the
required information is included in the application. As of July 6, 2021, for an
applicant applying for the Super Visa from India, the processing time is
estimated to be around 9 months or 272 days. The processing time period begins
from the day IRCC receives the completed application to the day a decision is
made on the visa application.
