  • In 2020, a points-based immigration policy was announced by the UK government. The major features of this policy are:

  • Immigration candidates from the EU and non-EU countries will be considered on par.

  • The points-based system is applicable to highly skilled workers, followed by skilled workers and students coming to the UK.

  • Skilled workers need to have a job offer.

  • The minimum salary one has to earn is £25,600 per year.

  • Applicants must need to show proficiency in English by getting a B1 or equivalent in the IELTS exam.

  • Skilled migrant professionals need to be authorized by an authority in the UK, even if they do not have a job offer.

  • They need to get a minimum score of 70 points to be eligible for a visa


How To Get The Eligible Score 

You will get 50 points if you have a work offer with a UK-based employer. 
With one of the following qualifications, you can earn 20 additional points required to qualify for the visa:
  • You will get 20 points if you have a job offer that pays a minimum of £25,600 per year.

  • An applicable Ph.D. gives you 10 points, while a Ph.D. in science, engineering, technology, and mathematics (STEM field) will earn you 20 points.

  • A job offer for a position in skill with shortages earns you 20 points.
