US B1 Visa

The B-1 visa is designed for individuals traveling to the US temporarily either business purposes (B-1). A B-1 visa is typically granted to travelers engaged in activities such as consulting with business partners, participating in scientific, educational, professional, or business conventions/conferences, handling estate settlements, or negotiating contracts. On the other hand, a B-2 visa is for those traveling for recreational reasons like tourism, visiting friends or family, seeking medical treatment, or participating in fraternal, social, or service-related activities. These two visas are often combined into one B-1/B-2 visa.

Requirements to apply for B1 visa

When applying for a B-1/B-2 visa, the applicant must prove their eligibility for a US visa in accordance with the US Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Under INA Section 214(b), every B-1/B-2 applicant is assumed to be an intending immigrant. This assumption must be challenged by the applicant by demonstrating:

  •          The temporary nature of their visit, whether it be for business, pleasure or medical treatment
  •          Their intention to stay in the US for a specific, limited time period
  •          Sufficient financial resources to cover their expenses during their stay in the US
  •          The presence of a permanent residence outside of the US and strong social or economic ties that will guarantee their return home after their visit
  •          Personal or domestic employees and crew members aboard vessels in the Outer Continental Shelf may be eligible for a B-1 visa under specific circumstances.

US Business Visa

  •          Holding sales or investment meetings

  •          Conducting business investments
  •          Attending meetings
  •          Interviewing and hiring staff
  •          Conducting research

It is recommended to apply for the visa at least 2-3 months prior to your trip to allow sufficient time for security checks and processing. In some instances, a personal interview may also be required.
